During the outage, 38 new nodes were installed. Each node contains two six-core Intel Xeon x5650 (“Westmere”) processors, 36 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 2TB internal SATA hard drive, and a QDR Infiniband network card.

This increases the total number of compute cores in sequoia from 368 to 824. In addition, users should find the new processors to be faster and more scalable, particularly for more memory-intensive jobs.
